My name is Lindsay and together with my husband from New Zealand we're raising our two kids in The Hague. This is where I grew up and always love to return to after a period of travelling. We love spending time at the beach, exploring the world with our family and being outdoors. I speak fluent Dutch and English.
My love for childbirth and postpartum care was developed after my own birth experiences. When I first got pregnant with our son I prepared for months listening to podcasts, indulging myself into a hypnobirthing course, guided meditations and books. My dream was to have a home birth. The midwife suggested, during the last phase in labour, to go to the hospital. It wasn’t the transfer to a different setting that was impactful, but the lack of continuous care from birth workers during this transition. My inner world and nervous system didn’t feel safe when my familiar midwife handed me over to the hospital care. This (together with medical interventions) led to a traumatic birth experience and severe postpartum anxiety. Something I had never felt before. As a social worker I knew the path to professional help. But in my surroundings I also see many women struggling for months/years after a negative birth experience.
When I got pregnant for the second time with our daughter, I chose a birth team of people who are passionate about childbirth and believe in the natural process of labour. My partner & I built a true connection with our caseload midwife and doula. We saw them frequently during the pregnancy. They knew my fears, triggers, deepest desire and visualisation for my second birth. I knew that no matter where I would birth our baby- this team of women would be by our side. Three years later I’m grateful everyday for my positive home birth where I felt connected to myself whilst being carried and supported through the presence of my birth team.
I’m here to watch you do it your own way whilst I hold your space.
